20 players gathered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 10-11, 2015 to play in the Fall 2105 Scrabble Tournament. Players came from Louisiana, Mississippi, and as far away as New Mexico to play 12 games.
The tournament winner, and Louisiana State Scrabble Champion was Mike Waugh, who also happens to be director of the host Baton Rouge Scrabble Club. Waugh’s record was 9.5-2.5. Second place went to Wally Schultz of New Mexico with an 8-4 record. The top winner of the second division was Carolyn Atchison, from Avery Island, while Danny Gatlin took second and Brenda Smith took third (both representing the Mississippi club). Baton Rouge club members, Joan Murphy and Annette McCaffery won first and second, respectively, in the third division.
Prizes were also awarded for top scoring words. Bill Clark played THIMBLES for 106 points, Brenda Smith played SEXTING for 104 (also winning a prize for highest new word) and Annette McCaffery played LAZIEST for 128 points. Prizes for most points in a game went to Wally Schultz (521), Carolyn Atchison (505) and Sandra Grant (538).
